Jesus Is My Guide
By Twila Belk
I will lead the blind by ways they have not known, along unfamiliar paths I will guide them; I will turn the darkness into light before them and make the rough places smooth. These are the things I will do; I will not forsake them.
Isaiah 42:16

I pulled my car into the drive-through lane at the bank and waited behind a Mercedes Benz with a beautiful big dog in the back seat. I had seen the same car while driving in town earlier in the week. Both times the dog’s head stretched outside, way beyond the window. For some reason that seemed odd to me. I turned to my young son Ryan, who was with me, and said, “What’s up with that dog?”
“Well, Mom, maybe it’s a seeing-eye dog.”
Instantly my creative mind took over. That’s it! Why hadn’t I thought of that before? The driver is blind! I pictured how it might work: The dog barked once when there was a red light. It barked twice for a green light. And it howled when there was a pothole in the road to avoid.
To me it was a clear illustration of blind trust.
That scenario reminded me of the times in our lives when we don’t know what’s on the road ahead. Perhaps we have a tough decision to make. We could be going through a difficult time and not know what to do. We might be in the midst of many unknowns and have no idea what to expect. It can be hard on us—really hard. BUT we have a seeing-eye GOD who is always there for us. Always ready to guide us on paths we have not known. Always ready to pick us up and head us in the right direction if we seek His help.
I’ve learned from experience that we have a great big God who can be trusted to guide us through any situation in life.
In which circumstances could you use some guidance today?
Have you asked the Guide for help?
Jesus, thank You for leading me when I don’t know the way. Thank You for guiding me when I’m on unfamiliar paths. Thank You for lighting the way before me and for smoothing out the rough places. Thank You that I can trust You when I don’t know where to go, what to do, or how to do it. You are my Guide.
