Jesus Is My God
By Betty Dirksen as told to Pastor Ed Hedding
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God. John 1:1

Among all the names of Jesus Christ, the name God is His fundamental name. All of the other names given to Him from scripture rest on the truth that Jesus is equal with God. Jesus possesses all the qualities and attributes of God. This came to my thoughts one day when I heard a speaker say that all cults deny the fact that Jesus is God.
John calls Jesus God in the first verse of his Gospel. Paul says that Jesus is God in Colossians 2:9: "For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form." Jesus calls Himself God in John 10:30: "I and the Father are one." God the Father calls Jesus God in Hebrews 1:8: "But about the Son He says, 'Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of Your kingdom.'" These are some wonderful verses to memorize, to know, and to share with others.
This truth is vital. Other names increase our knowledge of His being and reveal His love, cost, and sacrifice. But Jesus being God is essential to our salvation and our hope of eternity in heaven. Acts 4:12 says, "Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."
Is Jesus Christ God to you? Is He the Lord of your life?
Lord, I thank You that You sent Your Son, wrapped up in human flesh, to reveal to us that He is God. Thank You for revealing Yourself to our world so that we could get a picture of who You are and how we could have a relationship with You. Help me to honor You today by living my life in obedience and love to You, the Master of my life.
